Where the exchange rate data comes from
Exchange rates are sourced from the Frankfurter API, which republishes the European Central Bank's official reference rates. The ECB publishes updated rates once per business day, typically around 16:00 CET, and does not update rates on weekends or EU bank holidays. This site caches that data and refreshes it roughly once per hour, so the rate shown always reflects the latest ECB publication rather than a live trading feed.
Why the rate shown may differ from what your bank offers
The rate displayed here is the ECB's reference midpoint rate. It does not include the markup that banks, card networks, and money transfer services typically add on top when they actually exchange currency for you. Use this tool to understand the underlying market rate, and always check the specific rate and fees your bank or provider quotes before completing a real transaction.
